An evening at church…

Earlier tonight several members of the Eddington Astronomical Society of Kendal, myself included, gathered at a small church just outside Kendal to do a bit of skywatching. After a very nice day, which had promised a lovely clear sky, it wasa bit disappointing to get there and find the sky was quite misty and hazy, but we still enjoyed some lovely views of Venus and Jupiter shining together above the western hills; Mars shining above the little church itself, and the stars and nebula of Orion peeping through gaps in the bare branches of the trees by the car park. We even saw a bright (mag -5) Iridium flare shortly after we got there.

A great time was had by all – lots of swapping of telescopic views, lots of laughter and tea and choccy biscuits. Here are some of the pictures I took…
