Oppy on the Yellow Brick Road…

A week or so into her long, long drive south, Opportunity has driven onto a relatively flat patch of rocky “pavement”-type ground that looks promising both from a scientific and a driving point of view. Here’s a 3D pic I’ve made from a couple of the latest “raw” navcam images to come down from the rover, and you can clearly see how fractured and weathered the rocky pavement is, with dust dunes blown over and heaped up upon it…

  1. Something interesting that was mentioned at the planning meeting this week is that one of the cracks in the bedrock seems to continue into the ripple! I think there are some more observations of the feature planned before the drive.
