Gorgeous gullies…

Every week the Mars Reconaissance Orbiter team releases a new batch of images, and this week’s contains a lovely portrait of part of Gale Crater, in which can be seen a lot of the “gullies” that could either have been formed by running water or dust avalanches, depending on which group of scientists you believe. The original image is gorgeous, but wanting to see something a little more, well, martian, I cropped, colourised and sharpened the image to get these views, which I think are pretty stunning… click on them to bring up full size versions, as usual…

… and that’s why I love Mars! 🙂
