Great galloping galaxies..!

The Hubble Space Telescope has taken a new image that is an absolute stunner. It shows a large, beautifully milky, misty galaxy – NGC 4921 – which is part of the huge Coma Cluster of galaxies, and the galaxy is pretty impressive in its own right. But the most incredible thing about the image is that if you look closely at the sky around the outside of the galaxy you can see lots of OTHER galaxies, spirals, ellipticals, just hundreds of them, so many they look as thick as snowflakes, actually.

This is such a beautiful image I’m not going to post a small version of it here, that would just be… well… disrespectful, like posting a tiny thumbnail low resolution pic of the Mona Lisa. So, instead, here’s a link to the biggest and best version of the pic – but before you click on it PLEASE don’t go look if you’ve something important to do soon, because once you open up this image you’re going to be busy for the next hour…!

  1. Stu – a question for you. If this is what Hubble can see now, whatever are we going to see after her upgrade? My feeble mind is blown away by this – how will I cope with more and better? Go Hubble! 😀

  2. It looks like the mote in god’s eye.
