NASA to hold MSL-related press briefing tomorrow…

jpl-stella-080s

NASA has announced that it will hold a press briefing tomorrow, re. the status of the Mars Science Laboratory. MSL is scheduled to be launched next year, but that date has been under severe pressure recently because of budget and component supply problems, so speculation is rife that tomorrow will see MSL’s launch either delayed or cancelled altogether. I think the latter is unlikely, seeing as the rover is just about built, but we’ll have to wait and see…

More news tomorrow night. Cross your fingers.

  1. This announcement:

says things like “The MSL mission will assess…”, not “The MSL mission is designed to assess….” or anything like that so cancellation looks a bit extreme. I think delaying to the next launch window is most likely.
